Toraja House Architectural Carving

(Item: 38K 85)

This carved and painted remnant is from the island of Sulawesi, Indonesia. It is probably a decorative element from the side of Toraja a rice barn.  It is made up of two sandwiched pieces of wood, with traditional carving and painted with  red, white & black.  There is a considerable amount of old insect damge - not active - along the edge but not on the surface. The paint is more vivid on one side and faded and weathered gray on the other. This circa 1960 carving measures 65" High x 13" Wide x 3.5" Deep
